World Cup fever?

This football thing's good isn't it! So far I've watched at least part of most the games that have been played, and my general opinion .... meh. With some notable exceptions, Argentina crushing poor South Korea, Mexico beating France (woohoo) and Germany stomping the Aussies the games have not been the best.

I'm looking forward to the England games obviously and then the knockout rounds, it tends to liven up then. Watching them on my (still) lovely 58" plasma makes things a bit more bearable though.

Maybe they are not spectacular because none of the actual good players are there. Most of the high profile players couldn't be bothered because this isn't a paid game and they don't want to "hurt" themselves for the regular teams they play on.

It's sad because I don't think football players have the same sense of pride to play for their country as say Hockey players do. When team Canada or team USA play, that's their best players and none of them complain about being there unlike some football players.

Brazil sending in a lot of second rate players when they could send in their all-stars is a disgrace. Have some damn pride and stop being greedy with the money.

Bless your little Canadian socks, I think you've got the wrong end of the stick. Scratch that, I know you've got the wrong end of the stick. The managers for each country pick their best players, in their opinions. I do not know of any player ever whose club would not let them play in the world cup. I'm not sure about every country but the vast majority do not have domestic competitions going on at the same time as the world cup.

On a more positive note the games have picked up noticably, england excluded of course. Portugal spanking N Korea being a good example.
