Share the love

Just a quick post with some pics from mum's 60th birthday party. You may guess from them, but if not, the party was 60's and 70's themed. I worked on my face fuzz for a good 2 months then carved out the design in about 30 seconds, I hope you appreciate it.

Don't mess with the leather.

Flower powered family fun.

Oh dear this is what happens when my dad is given free reign.

It was very easy to pull in this get-up.

I think I confused my nan, then again she may have been confused anyway :)

Hurrah for Monsoon

Apart from surprising Sue, the main reason for my visit was to go shopping with Carolyn, Elisabeth and Elisabeth's friend Jo to find our bridesmaid dresses for Elisabeth's wedding in October. Elisabeth had decided that she didn't want custom made dresses - she'd rather we had something off the peg which we could wear again. So on Friday, Carolyn, Elisabeth and I headed to Oxford Street, and met Jo in Monsoon. We each picked a few dresses and tried them on. They were all lovely, and some of them worked for us, some of them didn't. However, none of them really had the 'wow' factor, although one green one was a 'distinctly possible'.

However, Jo then tried on one particular dress which Carolyn, Elisabeth and I had all overlooked and we agreed it looked fabulous. Carolyn and I tried it on too and the shop assistants brought us shoes and shrugs to match so we could get the proper effect. We all agreed that this was the one...probably. Typically, it was the most expensive one in the shop and Elisabeth wasn't 100% sure that she wanted that particular colour. Unfortunately, I can't tell you what particular colour that is or show you a photo of it as Elisabeth wants it to be a surprise on the day, but believe me, it had all the wow we needed. I shall therefore refer to it henceforth as THE dress.

We therefore spent the rest of the morning, after sustenance in John Lewis, trying on dresses in a few other shops, but only a couple came close to THE dress. We then had a fabulous lunch at a Turkish restaurant just off Oxford Street and then went back to Monsoon for the final decision between THE dress and the green dress. Unsurprisingly, THE dress won.

Thursday in London

We left Canadia 7pm Wednesday evening and due to time differences and flight durations arrived at Heathrow at 9.30am Friday. Richard went to the coach station to meet his sister Jacqui to head up to Norfolk, and I took the Heathrow Express train into London to meet first Elisabeth at Euston and then Carolyn at the Central Ballet School where she works.

After lunch at Carolyn's flat, we took the train to Clapham Junction to go to a large costume shop there. Sue had organised a 60s/70s party for the Saturday night, so I wanted find wigs for Richard and I. This shop had probably around 100 different wigs and so I found a great beehive for my 60s outfit and a Starsky-style wig for Richard's 70s get-up. However, more on that story later.

I lasted until 9.30pm on Thursday evening and then slept really well until Carolyn woke me with a cup of tea Friday morning.

Surprise!

We've just returned from a whistle stop visit (4 nights) to the UK to surprise Richard's Mum, Sue for her 60th birthday. I'll let him tell you about just how surprised she was, but in the meantime here's what I got up to...
